Paddle Hard Brewing

Life’s Short! Paddle Hard!

Thats why we are handcrafting awesome beer in one of Northern Michigan’s greatest towns. Grayling, the heart of the north, is famous for fast canoes and cold water and that’s exactly how we make our beer. Fast and all over the place with no rhyme, reason or plan!

The mantra here in our town is HUP (Hurry up and Paddle) And that’s exactly how we brew! No, really, we brew fast because we can’t keep the beer in stock.

Come to the Heart of the North and enjoy a Paddle Hard brew. So paddle on in and cheers with us!

Known by its legions of die-hard fans simply as “The Marathon”, this event is one of the original ultra-endurance events in North America. The Marathon is also the middle leg of the Triple Crown of Canoe Racing. New York’s General Clinton Canoe Regatta, staged Memorial Day, and Quebec’s Classique internationale de canots de la Mauricie, staged over the U.S. Labor Day weekend complete the Triple Crown circuit.

A few legends of the Marathon Committee: Phil Weiler, Andy Moore, Joe Wakeley, and John Cherven. Together these four have been on the committee for over 125 years!!

A HUGE thank you for everything you do for the Marathon year after year! This race wouldn't be the same without you.
Team # 99 of Tommy Cramer and Karen Pleasant want to give a huge THANK YOU to two Michigan paddlers who helped them after the Spikes Challenge on Sunday. Halfway through the race they hit a fish hide and put a hole in their canoe. Jon Webb looked at the damage and promptly loaded the canoe onto his car to take home and repair for them. On hearing what happened, Lynne Witte immediately offered them to the use one of her boats for the next few days.

“People often ask us why we travel so far to do this race - the kindness, generosity, and support we always receive here is a big reason why. Thank you again Jon and Lynne!” -Tommy and Karen

We love our paddling community!
Congratulations to Andy Triebold and Steve Lajoie for taking first place in the 2019 Consumers Energy Dash for Cash presented by Gilbert's Drug and Butterson Construction.

"The AuSable River Canoe Marathon Has Diehard Paddlers … and Feeders"

Check out this wonderful Consumers Energy AuSable Canoe Marathon MyNorth.com article by Kandace Chapple.

" 'Of course I’ve heard of a canoe marathon!' said no one, ever.

"This is my life. I am deep in the underworld of canoe racing. Few people have heard of it, fewer have done what I do each July—wade into the AuSable River in the dead of the night to drop food and drink into a canoe splitting through the water in a chase for the finish some 120 miles away.

"The setup is this: The two-man canoes enter the water at 9 p.m. on a Saturday night. They paddle all night nonstop into Sunday afternoon for 15 to 16 hours from Grayling to Oscoda, Michigan.

“Feeders” do this: We meet our team every two hours along the way and do a feed. This means handing them a jug with a long tube that they can drink from while they paddle, along with a container of food (fruit, energy gel, sandwich) that they tuck inside their canoe." (more)

Read Kandace's full article here> www.mynorth.com/2019/07/ausable-river-canoe-marathon/

The countdown is on to the 72nd Consumers Energy AuSable River Canoe Marathon, July 27-28. Since 1947, One of the greatest canoe races on Earth!

Hartwick Pines State Park

Hartwick PinesHartwick Pines is rich in scenic beauty and different habitats. The principal features of this park are the 49-acre forest of Old Growth Pines and logging museum. There is ample subject matter for the sports person, photographer, or naturalist throughout the year.

With an area of 9,672 acres, Hartwick Pines is one of the largest state parks in the Lower Peninsula. The park’s rolling hills, which are built of ancient glacial deposit, overlook the valley of the East Branch of the AuSable River, four small lakes and unique timber lands. The principal feature of this park is the 49-acre forest of Old Growth Pines which gives the park its name. This forest is a reminder of Michigan’s past importance in the pine lumber industry as well as a source of inspiration for the future of our forests. The park is rich in scenic beauty and because of the different habitats it encompasses, there is ample subject matter for the sports person, photographer, or naturalist throughout the year. The park is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. year round.

Hartwick Pines Visitor Center & Logging Museum

The Hartwick Pines Visitor Center, at Hartwick Pines State Park, draws thousands of visitors, campers and school children each year to see one of Michigan’s last stands of majestic old-growth pine forest.

For many visitors, Hartwick Pines is a mystical place, offering a serene escape from the modern world, and the year-round, fully accessible visitor center is a gateway to the towering pine forest and the Hartwick Pines Logging Museum that helps us remember when “White Pine Was King.”

This looks fantastic! Took a hike there last week and noticed the work in progress thank you for the hard labors for all of us hikers to enjoy!

Yeah!! Wanted to help with this trail as it is one of my favorites in the area, but was out of town so I wasn't able to. Thank you all for helping make this section of trail doable again for us AuSable Trail lovers.

Thank you for doing this! Just took this trail with my boyfriend for our first time today and we were so grateful for this beautiful part of the trail.

This is terrific 🤗 thank you. Any chance in the future the trail & the bog deck will be restored? The bog is a real gem, I love seeing all the carnivorous plants there.

Thank you!!!!

Wow,, looks awesome ❤️
