PSA from Michigan Department of Natural Resources. We would also like to add a couple things.
- Please clean up after your pet and keep them on a 6 ft leash.
- Use the trash receptacles and/or dumpsters provided. If there are none in your area please pack it out.
#MiStateParks #LeaveNoTracePlanning to camp over the Labor Day weekend? Here are a few tips to prevent critters from crashing your campsite:
🐻 Do not keep food in tents. Store food in airtight containers, in a vehicle trunk, or suspend food from trees. Make sure it’s high enough to be out of a curious bear’s reach.
🦝 Keep a clean camp. Clean up any trash and wipe down picnic tables, chairs, or any other surfaces that food was near.
🔥 Cook at a distance from your campsite and wash utensils shortly after eating.
🐀 Store trash as you would food - burning or burying waste attracts wildlife.
While camping, wildlife may wander through your campsite. If there are no enticing food rewards to grab their attention, they should continue on through. Visit Michigan.gov/Wildlife for more tips on preventing encounters with wildlife while camping. ...

A great reminder to be on the lookout for the invasive Asian longhorned beetle. The native pine sawyer beetle can be found here at Hartwick Pines.
#InvasiveSpecies #HartwickPines #MIStateParksAugust is Tree Check Month, a great reminder to keep a lookout for the invasive Asian longhorned beetle. While ALB aren't currently found in Michigan, it's important that we all do our part to help safeguard our amazing forests. Did you know that there is a similar beetle in Michigan that can cause a bit of confusion? Here is a photo of the invasive Asian longhorned beetle next to a native white-spotted pine sawyer. 🌳✔️📅
For more information on how to check your trees and why it's important, check content.govdelivery.com/accounts/MIDNR/bulletins/29887ee
