Cross Country Ski Headquarters – Pure Michigan Family Winter Trails Day – January 6, 2018

Entering its 21st year, Cross Country Ski Headquarters and the Great Lakes Winter Trails Council present the “Pure Michigan” Winter Trails Day on Saturday, January 6th, 2018. Adults and children receive a free Facilities Pass and cross country ski or snowshoe lesson, plus a complimentary hot cocoa and hot dog cookout on the ski trails! Equipment rentals are available for a special reduced rate. Bring your friends and family, and discover how fun winter in Northern Michigan can be.

Check-in is at 10:30am. Please make sure to pre-register. Check-in is followed by outfitting in rental snowshoes, boots, skis and poles for a reduced rate of $9 per adult and $6 per child.

11:00am: X-C Ski & Snowshoe group lesson. Learn the basics of cross country skiing and snowshoeing, including going up and down hills, and how to fall down and get back up!

12:00pm: Ski out to Trappers Cabin for Hot Dogs, a bonfire and Hot Cocoa, all on the house. After lunch at the Cabin, skiers and snowshoers will have the choice of exploring more trails, or heading back to Cross Country Ski Headquarters.

5:30pm (or earlier): Skiers return from their tours and return snowshoes, boots, skis & poles. They are invited to relax in front of the Fireplace in the Stone Turtle Day Lodge anytime throughout the day.

Preregistration is required for this event. We have a limited number of skis and snowshoes. Please pre-register by emailing your name, address, age, shoe size, and choice of X-C skiing or snowshoeing to: info@crosscountryski.com or calling 800-832-2663. If we are fully booked, we will reschedule you to Sunday, January 7th.

Love that photo and those times too! This was March of 1992. Jimmy was turning 1 year old! Since he could walk, we knew he could ski! He had many wonderful sibling instructors to learn from... 😉

Hanson Hills – 6 Hour Michigan Cup Team Relays – January 6, 2018

This is a fun/social event with a competitive spirit!! 3 person teams will compete to see who can tally up the most laps in a 6 hour period. This is a pot luck social so bring a dish to share!! A fun/friendly atmosphere. You may Skate or Classic ski any of the legs.

$45 per team ($15 per person) – Be Sure to come up with a creative Team Name!!

Here is a quick run-down of the Rules:

Michigan Cup
6hour Team Relay Instructions

REGISTRATION:
• Registration from 8:30am-9:30am (Lodge)
• $45 PER TEAM = $15 PER PERSON (team money must be paid all at once)

TEAMS:
• Teams will consist of (3) members.
• Categories of teams will be; ALL MALE team, ALL FEMALE team, CO-ED team.
• Each member of team must complete at LEAST (1) Lap during the 6hr period.
• Only (1) Team Member on course at a time.
• Each TEAM will be provided with a Lanyard with a designated team number, Lanyard will be used as a Baton. Team member must have Lanyard with them to have laps scored. TEAMS MUST EXCHANGE NUMBER LANYARD WITHIN THE PRE DETERMINED EXCHANGE ZONE.
• Teams will be provided with a personal lap counting sheet, (this is for team’s use only, cannot be used for official results)
TIMING:
• Timing will begin at 10am.
• Teams have until 3:59pm to start the final lap.
LAP COUNTING:
• When skier is finished with his/her “turn/leg”. They must immediately and politely “SELF REPORT” number of laps that they have skied that “turn/leg” at the officials table. If you do not report, those laps will not be counted.
• Hourly Lap reports will be posted.

Hanson Hills – Snow Board Academy – January 7, 2017

Snow Board Academy
For snowboarders ages 6-14!
A six week program specially designed for the beginning snow boarder. This program will teach students the basic fundamentals to snowboarding, including turning and stopping. Each Class will last an hour and a half. Each student will be allowed to stay and board the rest of the day. Class includes rental and lift ticket for the day.

Classes: Saturdays at 1:00 pm January 7,14,21,28, February 4, and 11th.

Class is held at Hanson Hills Recreation Area

Class fee: $150 which includes rental equipment, helmet and lift ticket for day ($360.00 value)

Students will have the option to purchase a discounted season pass for an extra $75.00 (Restrictions may apply)

Hanson Hills Hoppers – Learn to Ski Programs – January 7, 2017

Level 1 (Hanson Hoppers) A six week program for beginner skiers ages 4-7.
A six week program specially designed for children ages 4-7. This program is animated and colorful in order to keep the attention of our young students. Classes are held on Saturdays at 11:00 starting on January 7th. Each class will last an hour and a half, and then the students will be allowed to stay and ski the rest of the day. Class includes rental equipment and lift tickets for the day. Class is held at Hanson Hills Recreation Area.

Level 2 A four week program for more advanced students.
A four week program designed for students that were successful in completing Level 1 or that can test out of level 1. This class is design to be a continuation of our Level one class. Classes will be held on Sundays at 11:00 starting on January 8th.

Each class will be an hour and a half, and then the students will be allowed to stay and ski the rest of the day. Class includes rental equipment and lift tickets for the day. To participate in this class student skier must be able to stop, turn, control speed and avoid objects while on skis. Class is held at Hanson Hills Recreation Area.

Cost: $150.00 for each program, which includes rental equipment, helmet and lift ticket for the day. (Package is $360.00 value) Students will also have the option to purchase a discounted season pass for an extra $75.00 (restrictions may apply)

Early registration is recommended due to limited equipment!

For Crawford AuSable School District Students in 3rd or 4th Grade (First Time Skiiers) Registration Deadline: December 23rd

Your child will attend one (1) day a week. Class will meet five (5) weeks beginning January 9, 2017.

Lessons will be given Mondays or Tuesdays, from 3:30-5pm. Transportation to Hanson Hills will be provided by the Crawford AuSable School District. Parents: You are responsible for your child’s ride home at 5 p.m. If school is closed due to scheduled days or ½ days off, or inclement weather, ski lessons will be extended by one (1) week.

If there is a cancellation because of weather the school will be notified and your kids will be sent home as it is on their emergency card. WE WILL NOT BE CALLING EVERY PARENT. Weather cancellations are if actual temperatures are below 10 degrees at 11:00 am we will cancel. If wind chill is -10 degree or lower at 11:00 am we will cancel.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters – Free Cross Country Ski Lesson – January 12, 2019

Learn how to cross country ski at our Saturday free ski lesson!

This beginner lesson teaches the basics of cross country skiing, including classic diagonal stride and/or skate skiing, hill climbing and descending, and turning. We even teach you how to get up after you fall down!

Each lesson ends with a mini ski tour to Trapper’s Cabin, where skiers can purchase hot cocoa and relax by the bonfire. Adults and children are welcome.

If you need to rent skis for a nominal charge, please sign in at the rental desk no later than 10:15am.

This lesson is free and lasts approximately 1 hour.

Cross Country Ski Headquarters – Full Moon Night Skiing! – January 18, 2019


Experience the magic of winter under the moonlight, and the light of rustic torches!

Enjoy night skiing along a torchlit trail to Trapper’s Cabin, where a bonfire and hot chocolate await you.

The torches and bonfire are lit from 6pm to 8pm. Skiers or snowshoers who need to rent equipment must do so by 7pm.

Join us for an enchanted evening amidst the beauty of the nighttime forest!
